Gun violence, sex trafficking and self-harm are just some of the horrific experiences the 115 young women who make up the Girl Be Heard theater company know about firsthand. And under the guidance of executive director Jessica Greer Morris, 45, the girls are empowered to write about and share their stories—which have been performed everywhere from high schools to the White House. Says Greer Morris: "If we don't talk to each other, how will we change the world?"

What drives me: "I'm a survivor of sexual violence. If I can prevent one girl from going through that, my work is done."

My dream: "A world where girls can realize their potential and rise above their circumstances."

Her Cause: Girl Be Heard

A theater group that empowers girls ages 12 to 21 to share personal stories through performance.
